Pakistani Muslim Wedding Traditions: An Overview
Muslim weddings are celebrated on a grand scale for a minimum period of 3 days. The weddings can be conducted at any time as unlike the other faiths muslims are not worried about auspicious times. The wedding ceremony known as Nikah can occur at the bridegroom’s residence or at a place convenient enough for both parties. A few wedding rituals common to Muslim weddings are shared below: Mehndi: A Muslim wedding starts with the mehndi ceremony in most parts of the country. Though the concept is not part of Islamic traditions and is mainly inspired from the neighbouring country, it is celebrated to add to wedding celebrations. The ceremony is attended by most of the females in the family. Girls and ladies sing songs to mark the wedding celebration.
